The Centre de formation du transport routier Saint-Jérôme (CFTR) opened in 1976. In those early days, the Centre took in about 100 students per year and had about 12 trucks in its driver training fleet. Today the CFTR is one of only two designated public training centresofferingheavy vehicle driver training in the province. In the past 35 years, the CFTR has acquired a reputation as the top ranking institution providing training for transportation related occupations.
The CFTR awards diplomas to more than 800 graduates per year and now has an equipment fleet consisting of over 250 makes and models of trucks and semi trailers corresponding to the vehicles used in the trucking industry. Because of its extensive expertise, the CFTR is regularly asked by many partners and associates to participate in various projects.
The CFTR has acquired a high degree of credibility in the truck driver training field and trains over 800 students per year. The Truck Driver Training Program takes the transportation industry’s requirements for efficiency, skills and safety into account. Future truck drivers obtain a high level of professional training that is designed to meet the industry’s current requirements. At the end of the five month program, students graduate with a vocational diploma (DEP) in truck driving issued by the Quebec Department of Education, Recreation and Sport.

Through a partnership with various school boards, the CFTR offers its program of instruction in St. Hyacinthe, Sherbrooke, Cowansville, Vaudreuil–Dorion, St. Jean sur Richelieu, Joliette, Gatineau, Mont Laurier and the Abitibi region.
The CFTR has over 125 trucks and 145 semi-trailers, a few of which are equipped with conventional communication equipment and global positioning and satellite communication systems. The variety of CFTR equipment represents what is available in terms of Class 8 trucks in today’s trucking industry.
